In this ever-changing technological time when working at home became the norm, technological skills were not only a luxury, but a necessity. Unfortunately, for many generations coding was not a skill that was taught; it was often only thought of in the realms of sci-fi and hackers, such as in Star Trek or The Matrix.
However, with initiatives such as National Coding Week, this digital hesitancy amongst adults may not be for long – and with this end, incalculable possibilities will open up.
One such possibility is that coding is the new global language which every country uses. It is a skill that isn’t bound to the borders of one country – it is an invaluable skill that makes the user of coding an asset that every global employer is begging for.
With this new language another opportunity arises, which is community – something that COVID has taught us is needed more than ever.
During the COVID era, communities around the world helped each other, and with learning to code, one of the largest communities arose. Adults were able to share knowledge, advice and skills with likeminded individuals which provided solace – but also a chance of betterment with job prospects, as well as mental health.
Thus, with National Coding Week taking place an opportunity begins, where resources open up; with tech companies offering support to adults to benefit and launch themselves into the endless possibilities that coding harbours.
So, with coding not being this secretive world full of hidden meanings and people, adults should open themselves up to the possibility of experiencing a wonderful new language that provides endless hope and freedoms to an entire new world at their fingertips.
Why not get involved in National Coding Week 2021? We have listed some resources below that will kickstart your coding journey:
With new-gen consoles recently released from both PlayStation and Xbox (if you can get your hands on one that is), the digital gaming marketplace is about to get a complete revamp with tons of new, exciting and technologically advanced games coming to our screens in 2021/22.
COVID unfortunately delayed the release of some of the titles we at Gigabit Networks were looking forward to plugging into – but here’s a couple of the games recently announced that we think you should be keeping an eye out for.
FAR CRY 6
The release of Far Cry 6 is long-awaited – and one of the titles which unfortunately had its release date delayed due to staffing issues at Ubisoft during the COVID pandemic.
The story follows the traditional Far Cry blueprint – this time taking place in the Caribbean on the fictional island of Yara ruled by facist dictator Antón Catillo (played by Giancarlo Esposito) and his son & prodigy Diego, who is unsure of his future. Users play as Dani Rojas, a local Yaran guerilla fighter who plans to restore the island to its former glory.
One of the best features of Far Cry is it’s open-world aspect and we’re looking forward to seeing what the team have created for the new map, which promises to be ‘the largest Far Cry map to date’. We’re also super excited to see what Esposito does with the role of ‘El Presidente’ Antón Castillo – who proved his bad-guy status time and time again with his characters Gus in Breaking Bad, and Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian.
And Far Cry have once again outdone themselves with their cute (but deadly) sidekicks available to your character throughout the game – one word, Chorizo! Fight crime with the most adorable (and courageous!) little sidekick we’ve ever seen in the franchise.
You can preorder the game now on the Ubisoft website, officially releasing October 7th to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Epic Games and Ubisoft Connect.
BACK 4 BLOOD
A new, independent spin-off to the infamous Left4Dead franchise – this brand-new zombie shooter from Turtle Rock Studios is sure to be a hit, boasting a campaign available for up to 4 players via online co-op and a brand new PVP mode, similarly to its predecessor.
The Back4Blood website boasts ‘extreme replayability’ in its new story – quoting the following:
“A new rogue-lite Card System creates different experiences with each playthrough. You can jump right into the action by choosing a pre-made deck or dive into Back 4 Blood’s vast customisation and make your own. The choice is yours”
Play the Back4Blood story solo, or online with up to 3 friends co-op – and then jump into the exciting new 4v4 PVP online mode, where players can take on the role of a ‘Cleaner’ (survivors) or ‘Ridden’ (the infected):
“Switch between playing as a Cleaner or Ridden. As a Cleaner, you bring the fight to enemy Ridden and aim to survive for as long as you can. As the Ridden, employ unique abilities to destroy your opponents as quickly as possible.”
Fans of the original Left4Dead series will be excited to learn that Back4Blood is coming to Xbox Games Pass members for FREE, to all Games Pass subscription tiers. Back4Blood will also be available to purchase on all major digital game stores on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. Coming 12th October 2021.
A PLAGUE TALE: REQUIEM
A lesser-known – but equally spotlight deserving – title, the release of A Plague Tale: Innocence was a visually beautiful, narrative-driven game of horror, stealth & strategy. Set in France and following the adventures of Amicia and her young brother Hugo, we saw the siblings battle both the peril of the French Inquisition along with swarms of deadly rats responsible for spreading the black plague.
The stories of the duo and their friends that we encountered in ‘Innocence’ have got us very excited to see what Asobo Studio & Focus Home Interactive do with the franchise next.
Not much has been revealed about the plot of ‘Requiem’ so far. All we really know is that the story once again follows Amicia and Hugo, and picks up right from where the story left off in Innocence.
Asobo Studios (developers of ‘Requiem’) have teased audiences with the following quote:
“Embark on an emotional and breathtaking journey in the sequel to the award-winning A Plague Tale: Innocence. Follow Amicia and her brother Hugo, as they do whatever it takes to survive a brutal, uncaring world.”
This game will be released in 2022 (date not yet confirmed) and will also be available to Xbox Games Pass members for free, as well as for purchase on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and in Cloud Version on Nintendo Switch.
And as always – Gigabit Networks have your back and can equip you with next-generation PureFibre digital infrastructure to get stuck into the latest gaming releases.
Don’t be interrupted by peak internet usage hours, unreliable copper cables or your annoying housemates hogging all the bandwidth – and instead get Gigabit-capable, fibre-to-the-home internet with speeds up to 1Gbps (1,000Mbps).
And tell us on our socials about some of the games you’re looking forward to being released over the coming months – we’d love to add more to our list!

However moving forwards, as a PBSA and houses of multiple occupant (HMO) decision maker – you know you need to up your game even further to capture the next round of students in the upcoming academic year.
With that said, fast and reliable Internet connectivity was rated the most important feature of a PBSA/HMO when paying for a rental premium as a student (UCAS, 2021).
At Gigabit Networks, we are on a mission to bridge the digital divide in the student accommodation sector across the UK, primarily in the Midlands.

The month of April saw the launch of a brand new online publication – Digital Midlands.
The platform aims to bring together a community of entrepreneurs, investors and talent in the world of technology and innovation.
“We see so much potential in the Midlands for great collaboration and investment,” said Dan Ilett, Partner at 4 Oceans Ventures.
“We are focusing our portfolio on the Midlands, as we realised there isn’t really a publication or community to bring together the brilliant stories of tech creativity.”
Digital Midlands was founded due to the rich talent that can be found in the region and the potential for new business & innovation opportunities – yet the area often gets overlooked by investors.
Therefore, Digital Midlands will act as a voice to connect those stories and develop opportunities alongside the wealth of graduate talent, universities and start up businesses in the Midlands.
Gigabit Networks is proud to be a partner of Digital Midlands by sponsoring a series of webinars and events with digital thought leaders in the region.
Moving forward, the online community – an initiative led by 4 Oceans Ventures – aims to be the home for creativity, growth and resources for all things digital in the Midlands ecosystem.
